Patrick Warner is a photographer from Missoula, Montana, USA. His work primarily deals with the surroundings and landscapes of Montana. Currently, he is working on a project about Northern Montana called Up from the Plains. The state is the 4th biggest in the USA, as well as one of the most sparsely populated. It is connected by highways, big and small, stretching across from the Great Plains to the Rocky Mountains. Before highways, Montana was connected to it’s towns and the rest of the country by railroads. One historic railroad in particular, built by the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe company, defines the northern region of the state- the Hi-line. While many consider the Hi-line only to be east of the continental divide, the railroad branches from the Pacific Ocean to Minnesota. Paralleled by US Highway 2, the Hi-line covers the span and diversity of Montana’s geography from the Rocky mountains to the beginning of the Great Plains.
